Biography:
Megan “Soma” Grotefend (Lewis), MD grew up in Albuquerque, NM. She spent every summer of her childhood in the Alamosa River Valley, as her grandfather was a co-founder of the Phillips University Science Camp located near, Jasper Colorado. This area remains a significant part of her adult life as well, as the family cabin located there remains a favorite destination for year-round entertainment.

Dr. Godefend began her medical career has taken her as far away as New Zealand, where she practiced for two years, and as close as Durango, where she has spent the majority of her years taking caring for the health of families. She has extensive experience in urgent care, women’s health, pediatrics and treating patients with lifestyle education and food as medicine, in addition to judiciously prescribing medications. She became a physician because she has a deep respect for the healing abilities of the human body and an on-going desire to teach people how to help their body recover from illness and injury. Her educational training and understanding of nutrition and functional fitness integrate seamlessly with her abilities to make complex subjects easily understood, helping her patients turn action plans into lifetime habits leading to long-term health. Her sense of humor also makes going to the doctor an easy experience.

Dr. Grotefend loves being physically active through skiing (all kinds), biking (all kinds), hiking, and participating in fitness classes. She is also an avid knitter and crocheter during the evening hours. She has worked for many years teaching healthy living through food, focus and fitness. Soma is a meditation teacher and has taught meditation as a part of daily health in many locations around the world. She has two adult daughters, as well as several family members, living in Durango area, so when not living and playing in South Fork area, you will find her romping in nearby terrain with her family.
