The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. The Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) is a document that tells your patients, employees, or clients how their health information may be used and shared and lists their health privacy rights related to Protected Health Information (PHI).
