Emergency Services

Evaluation and care for emergencies is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The emergency room is staffed with a registered nurse and a physician dedicated to take care of medical emergencies, acute illnesses and traumatic injuries. Rio Grande Hospital is a Level IV Trauma Center in Colorado.

Patients can be assured that we offer high quality emergency care with their needs at the center of our care. Emergencies that require a higher level of care will be transported to a specialized hospital either by air ambulance or ground ambulance.

Inpatient Services

Rio Grande Hospital has capability to care for acute illnesses. Our medical floor has 10 private rooms, 2 semi-private rooms and 3 observation beds to care for our patients. We utilize a state of the art cardiac monitoring system, respiratory therapy, physical therapy and nursing care to provide a complete plan of care that is focused on the patient’s needs and concerns.

Nursing staff is centered on caring for our patients and families. Rio Grande Hospital employs 18 registered nurses and 7 certified nursing aides to assist in personalizing care. All of our RN’s are required to have specialized emergency skills including Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Life Support, Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course and Trauma Nursing Core Course.

Rehabilitation / Swing Bed Services

Rio Grande Hospital offers services for patients who need extra time or extra help returning to their current living status. We utilize swing bed services to assist our patients in returning back home and continue to get rehabilitative services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutritional services and skilled nursing services. RGH believes that assisting patients who need a little extra care will offer a more positive hope for patients to return home and to independent living.

Infusion Services

To assist our patients in returning to the community, we offer infusion services for medications. RGH offers our patients and visitors the ability to have routine intravenous medications administered close to home. RGH does not offer chemotherapy infusion services at this time.

Ellen Lane, is our Chief Nursing Officer & Chief Operating Officer. Ellen worked 14 years at St. Mary Corwin all areas of nursing and as the Trauma Coordinator.  She has worked the past 5 years in a Critical Access Hospital as CNO.  She is faculty for ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, and has been a presenter at many of the trauma symposiums in the state.

Will Hurley, the  Director of Nursing, received his BSN at University of Colorado and has been working the past three years at Moab Regional Hospital in both Inpatient and Emergency Department medicine.  Prior to working at Moab, he worked in long-term acute/ICU care. For 7 years he has worked as the Course Director of Colorado Outward Bound School. During that time he had ample opportunity to refine his leadership styles which is leading by example and honest, open communication.  He enjoys being around his family in the this area where he was raised.
